The Lake St. Louis Canoe Club was formed in 1884 out of a desire to devote more attention to canoeing. Rowing had become the more popular sport at the parent club, the Lachine Boating Club, but both organisations would operate out of the same building. Lake St. Louis were active participants at the ACA Annual Meets from 1884, as listed in the American Canoeist. They began hosting regattas on their own lake and the 1885 regatta, the first of its kind, was heralded as the "best ever (regatta) held in the province of Quebec." However, in 1890, it was decided that a merger with the parent club would be of benefit since rowing had waned in popularity by then. The new entity in 1891 was called the Laching Boat and Canoe Club. This seems to be in contradiction with the American Canoe Association Yearbook 1893 which still lists Lake St. Louis for Lachine. There was a Lake St. Louis Motor Boat Club which had a distinct blue and white penant with a diamond logo but it is unknown if they were related to the canoe club in any way.
