The
Royal
Military College Canoe Club was
founded in 1880, its origins being that of a Recreation
Club Fund to set up recreational activities for cadets.
A "subsidiary" of the Recreation Club was then
founded around the same time as the Royal Military College
Boat Club. This was probably 1883 since that date is part
of the club logo on the ribbon as seen below. The early
club was under the leadership of Lt.-Col. Edgar Kensington,
and participated in ACA annual meets for some time, including
1886 at Grindstone Island. The college still operates today
but disappeared from the Canadian canoeing scene at the
turn of the 19th century. The club totem was a beaver. The
cadets at RMC continued to race in C15s and host a regatta
day until about 1972. |
