Woodlands
Boating Club
was founded on the south shore of Lac St-Louis in 1910,
a year before entering the CCA as a member club. Canoeing
involvement ceased shortly after World War I, the club continuing
in the association until at least 1919. The club continues
today as the Woodlands
Yacht Club. The original building burned
down in 1938. The Second World War delayed reconstruction
but the organization reformed as the Woodlands
Recreation Association in the early
1950's. The Woodlands Yacht Club group, sailing out of Godfellow
Bay, were invited to use the WRA facilities for their weekend
races. Eventually, the WRA changed its name to Woodlands
Yacht Club and continues to offer sailing, swimming
and day camp activities to the various communities on the
south shore of the St. Lawrence. The 1911 CCA program misspells
Woodlands as “Woodlawns”
alongside the correct spelling. This has resulted in mythical
references to a “Woodlawns Boating Club.”
