There
was a question to form an Okanagan Association to control boating
and canoe racing on the lake in 1907. This evolved into the Okanagan
War Canoe Association (centred in Vernon) with participating clubs
from:

INFORMATION |
The Kelowna
Aquatic Association
was incorporated in 1909 but was hosting
regattas as early as 1905 (Kelowna Clarion, July 6, 1905).
1908 seems to be their second annual regatta and the Ladies
War Canoe was part of the 1909 regatta circuit at the latest.
Trophies presented at the Kelwna regatta included the J.B.
Knowles Trophy, William Crawford, Esq. Trophy, Willis Piano
Trophy, the Robinson Cup and the McGaw Cup. These trophies
are in the possession of the Kelowna Fire Brigade who themselves
entered the war canoe races in the late 1900s. |

INFORMATION |
The
Summerland
Canoe Club was situated on Lake Okanagan
just north of Penticton on the west side. In February 1908,
there was reported the formation of a Summerland Yachting
and Boating Club but it is unclear if this organisation
went on to become the SCC. In later year, th British Columbia
Kayak & Canoe Club held a Summerland chapter which was
strictly for flatwater racing. |

INFORMATION |
The
Peachland
Athletic & Aquatic Association was founded
sometime around 1909, largely to makeup for failed regattas
at nearby Naramata. J.M. Robinson founded Peachland after
moving out west to establish a mining operation. Peachland
is on the west side of Lake Okanagan, across from Kelowna
South. Peachland boasted excellent war canoes in Junior,
Senior and Mixed classes. Regattas ended shortly after the
breakout of World War I due to the small town losing a lot
of men to service. Their war canoe was sold to the Kelowna
club. Trophies presented at the Peachland regatta included
the W.A. Lang Cup and the J.M. Robinson Shield, |

INFORMATION |
The
Naramata
Amateur Athletic & Aquatic Association was
founded sometime in 1908 and held two regattas in their
first year. The third annual regatta was held in 1909 and
due to its having failed to meet expectations, it instigated
the organisation of the Peachland association. Trophies
on offer at Naramata's regatta included the J.M. Robinson
Cup (unique to that of Kelowna). |
