INFORMATION
The Kennebecasis Rowing and Canoe Club was formed in 1971 by Rob Lang as a rowing facility and the Kennebecasis Kayak Club was formed in 1982 in preparation for the 1985 Canada Games in Saint John. Other clubs formed at the same time were Nackawic and Moncton, although only Kennebecasis survives. On the 1986 CCA program, Kennebecasis is not listed, but rather the New Brunswick Racing Canoe & Kayak Section. However, the following year, both organisations are listed. Kennebecasis is a derivation of the Mi’Kmaq “Kenepekachiachk,” meaning “little long bay place.” The club changed its name in 2016 to Kennebecasis Paddling Centre to better reflect the disciplines of canoeing provided to the community.
