The
Metro-Codiak Canoe Club was founded in 1969
on the muddy Petitcodiac River by Karen and Fred Lynch,
sponsored by Cheema and Banook. While living in Moncton,
they were approached in the hopes that they could establish
a racing canoe club. As a result, New Brunswick was able
to send some paddlers to the 1969 Canada Summer Games. Unfortunately,
after the Lynchs’ move to Windsor, the club folded
in 1971. The Tri-Community
Aquatic Club (known until then as the
Tri-Village Aquatic Club) quickly took over canoeing activites
upon the dissolution of Metro-Codiak. However, that club
also "ceased operations" within two years, by
1973. |
