Ubique was known originally as the Galt Collegiate Institute Canoe Club. The McKendrick family being based in Cambridge, it is not surprising that both Galt and Ubique form out of the same geographical area. According to the American Canoeist magazine (June 1884), the GCICC "recently changed its name to the Ubique Canoe Club." Ubique is also indicated to have been founded 1880 which is likely the founding of the original GCICC. By 1886 when the Galt Canoe and Boating Club shows up in ACA records, they are shown as a separate club from Ubique for several years.

* C. Fred Johnston comments that the club is not surprisingly called Ubique since they were a conglomeration of paddlers from everywhere. (some from as far away as Peterborough, Toronto and Petrolia!) The Ubique club had no building or property. The paddlers got together at the annual meet. They were still listed on the ACA annual program in 1908.
