The RUPERT PROJECT

Rupert Annual 1980

Rupert and the Pearlfishers

It sometimes staggers me how fast I can punch one out when I haven't written anything
in months. Just as I finished loading the images for The Seamaker a tune came to me
and within minutes I had The Pearlmaker done! (Frankly, I think it's better than the first two -
such is inspiration...)

Rupert is on his way to master the breeze   But Pong-Ping has a ransom note
to aid the Pekingese
Down into the miracle lift they leave England behind

  The Palace-by-the-Sea is where
the friends themselves they find
  Pirates have kidnapped the King
The blackest pearls around they must bring
Enough to match the weight of their pawn but how can this be done before the dawn?

The islands that scatter the coast
are a haven for these gems
But ever should there be enough
the search would never end
  Rupert takes a desperate step
to find the hideaway

Of those who started this scavenger
hunt and try to save the day
  Pirates have kidnapped the King
The blackest pearls around they must bring
Enough to match the weight of their pawn but how can this be done before the dawn?

  Into the caverns where
no one ever goes
  They meet with the
Pearlfisher King
Off with the ransom that's worth -
no one knows
And rescue the throne of Beijing

That night is the ransom drop
in the open of the beach
An ambush halts the staggering plot and culls all the thieves   Pirates have kidnapped the King
The blackest pearls around they must bring

Enough to match the weight of their pawn but how can this be done before the dawn?
