INFORMATION

The Aylmer Boating Club was located at the foot of Main Street (Rue Principale) on Mr. Conroy's wharf (the site of today's Aylmer Marina) and was founded approximately 1890 since they co-hosted regattas with the Ottawa Canoe Club that year. By 1900, they had 40 members, a "sufficiently commodious" boathouse and wrote in the Ottawa Journal about the possibility of local interested parties discussing a coming together of boating organisations. (Likely a reference to the Victoria Yacht Club further upstream north of Aylmer) A Wikipedia article cites a missing source that has conflicting information, namely that the Aylmer Boating Club became Aylmer Yacht Club in 1900 (likely confusion resulting from postcards) and then subsequently the Victoria Yacht Club in 1906. However, the Ottawa Journal article from August 10, 1897 clearly calls the new club being founded as Victoria Yacht Club and makes no mention of the Aylmer Boating Club. Besides, the two clubs were located on distinctly separated sites. The Aylmer Boating Club was a member club of the American Canoe Association from 1894 through 1900 and was spearheaded by president George Burns. The club was sometimes listed as Aylmer CC in ACA Yearbooks.

The Aylmer Boating Club,
while never a member of the CCA,
did join OCC in hosting regattas.
