The
Bobcaygeon
Canoeing & Boating Association
was present at the Lake Couchiching
annual ACA meet in 1888 and competed in a joint meet
with Peterboro and Lindsay at Sturgeon Point, May 24,
1886 to celebrate the Queen's birthday. The American
Canoeist states that they are "newly instituted
" in 1886. The clubhouse was 20' x 40' and two
storeys high. Two members, W. J. Read and M. F. Minns
both served as Rear Commodores for the Northern Division
of the ACA (1890 and 1892, respectively). The exact
location of the boathouse was on the north bank of the
river near Lock 32 but I have yet to find a definitive
source.
