The
American Canoe Association was formed in 1880. Many
Canadian clubs belonged to the ACA as part of its Northern
Division until 1900 when the CCA founding clubs formed
their own Canadian Association. By 1889, there were
up to 23 Canadian member clubs in the ACA.

Gananoque seems to have had a consistent involvement, whether
by official membership or a loose gathering of canoeing
enthusiasts, with the ACA since at least 1889 and continuing
into the 1900s when some members won the ACA Paddling Trophy.
It is entirely likely that this loose existence was formally
organised as the Gananoque Motor Boat & Canoe Club in
1906, especially as the club continued to be prominent ACA
members from that point. The unique penant also predates
1906 which indicates something more formal in structure.

The Montreal Boating Club existed before the Montreal AAA
formed in 1881 but may have been absorbed/merged at some
point.

In 1885, members of the Lachine Boating Club formed the
Lake St-Louis Canoe Club as a canoe-centred outfit and began
hosting regattas that year.

Otonobee was likely a loose group of racers, much like the
Ubique Canoe Club, specifically organised to be separate
from the brick and mortar Peterborough BC.
(1967 saw a Lakefield Preparatory School affiliated with
CCA as an associate club.)
