The
Dartmouth
Boys' Christian Association was
founded shortly after WWI, either 1919 or 1920. They were
short lived as the club was basically a founding entity
of the Mic Mac Aquatic Club in 1923. It is unclear if
they were absorbed by the new club or if they initiated
its founding.
The DBCA were regular participants in the Inter Club regattas
on Lake Banook for their first two years.
According
to Fred Johnston, “as a start, the group of youth
at the Dartmouth Boys’ Christian Association (DBCA)
who formed the paddling core bought the war canoe from
the Jubilee Club and moved it to a shed next to MacPhee’s
Boathouse. They recruited former members of the North
Star club and started racing on their own.”
