INFORMATION |
The
Island
Amateur Aquatic Association was founded
on Long Pond in 1887 (some records say 1883, although their
fiftieth anniversary is mentioned in the 1937 program) when
Toronto Island was still a sandbar void of green plants.
The club's first regatta was held in 1888 on Block House
Bay, however, Island didn't join the CCA until 1908. The
first clubhouse on Long Pond was built in 1906, the club
having taken up residence in John Hanlan's premises from
1889 to 1906. After a devastating fire, the club was reorganised
in 1939 as the Island
Canoe Club. |
