INFORMATION
The Lindsay Canoe Club was founded 1883 in time for the annual ACA regatta at Stony Lake. Lindsay was a member of the American Canoe Association along with many other Canadian clubs and by 1889 was one of 23 Canadian clubs competing in the Northern Division of the ACA. The club gradually faded from the canoeing circuit and then folded in later years although the burgee below indicates that the club was still in existence in 1912. J. G. Edwards was part of the regatta committee for the Pointe Claire BC regatta in 1890 showing that Ontario and Quebec clubs competed againt one another on the regatta circuit long before 1900. From the Kawartha Lakes Museum: "In 1885, the Lindsay Canoe Club spearheaded a new regatta, giving shape to the annual event. Formed in July 1883, the club elected Adam Hudspeth as President and E. B. Edwards (Peterborough) as Vice President. Within a few months, the club grew to 20 members and secured a boathouse along the Scugog River at the end of Ridout Street, Lindsay."
