Kamloops Canoe and Kayak Club was founded in 1990 and shares the Shumway Watersports Complex with the Kamloops Waterski Club and Kamloops Rowing Club. The club offers equipment for racing canoe/kayak and other outdoor recreation. In a similar situation to Saskatchewan, British Columbia provided funds to start up canoe clubs in the lead-up to the 1993 Kamloops Canada Games. There had already been a marathon/recreational canoe outfit in Kamloops which went dormant in the late 80s but the money in 1990 allowed for members to write up a constitution for an official canoe and kayak club.
