INFORMATION
Serving the communities of Nipissing, North Bay Canoe Club was founded in 1968 by Terry and Jean Evans amongst others, after canoeing was discontinued at Toronto Sailing. There was an attempt in 1950 by Harvey Charters of Balmy Beach fame to start up a new club in North Bay, without success, and as far back as 1936, there was talk of North Bay and Kirkland Lake joining the Western Division should Sudbury be granted the CCA National Championship regatta. Paddlers from North Bay had been entering CCA qualifying races under the Algonquin Division throughout the 1920s. The new club building was built in 1985. North Bay was originally in the Western Ontario Division from 1969 but moved to the Eastern Ontario Division for the 1988 season. North Bay is committed to the promotion of recreational and competitive flat water canoeing and kayaking and accommodates all ages and levels from novice to elite.
