INFORMATION |
The
Calgary
Canoe Club was founded in 1959 (registered
1958 under the Societies Act) by John Dicey, an English
immigrant, and Chris Von Schoening to bring together the
loose groups of paddlers in and around the city. The club
aims to develop canoeing and kayaking skills from beginners
to high performance athletes. Calgary’s mandate is
“to provide an environment for the recruitment and
development of athletes in sprint racing disciplines.”
The club offers programs in sprint, marathon, outrigger
and whitewater boating, promoting safe and enjoyable experiences
along the way. Boats and hall are also rented out from the
building shared with the Calgary Rowing Club. Calgary first
sent competitors to the national championships in 1966 and
has both hosted and won the Prairie Division championships
on several occasions. |
