The Montreal Gazette, Aug 8, 1955, states that this is the first time that Balmy Beach can lay sole claim to the championship, referencing their tie with Grand Trunk in 1951. While this is true when speaking of the actual "burgee," it ignores Balmy Beach's previous three (pre-burgee) championship wins in 1915, 1919 and 1920. Similarly, the Ottawa Journal states that Balmy Beach "tied Grand Trunk for the burgee in 1951 for their first title." Again, it was their first "burgee" but their fourth "title."
